Build-A-Freddy Funko Pop Figure Review

Hi guys! I’m back with another Funko Pop Review and this time, they’re a bit special not only because they’re exclusive but they’re also personalized. I was really excited when Funko announced the launch of the HQ’s Pop Factory a couple of years ago (Featured photo by: thefootballguy81) and was really hopeful that I can snag at least 1 custom creation. Here’s a video shot by the crew days before the grand opening.

You have the option to create 2 types of Pops for $15 each. Either a Freddy Pop or a Monster Pop. I got my first Build-A-Freddy Funko Pop last year when a friend went to Funko HQ. As my friend’s phone was about to die, I have to decide which parts should I get real fast. There are so many good combinations and it’s really hard if you don’t have the actual items to tinker with. The accessories available varies but here are photos of the parts that I can combine that time.

Disclaimer: Everything was shot via Facebook Messenger.

Meet Alejandro El Heladero. My first Build-A-Freddy Funko Pop! from Funko HQ’s Pop Factory!

I’m not entirely sure why I decided for it to be this way but I guess it turned out alright (The mace is sooo cute! Reminds me of Hawkgirl hehe). I really like the fact that I can Mix & Match the parts of this collectible. So when some of my friends went to the Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle, WA just two weeks ago for some serious Funko experience, I was ecstatic! They made time to visit the store in Everett and there goes my 2nd creation!!!

Upon purchase, they will wrap your pop with gift-wrapping tissue then put it inside the special box. Unlike commercial Funko Pops, this doesn’t have the plastic insert to hold the figure. After a long chat with my friend, she was able to assemble my 2nd Build-A-Freddy Funko Pop!

I didn’t include the other head here but you can see the additional accessories that I got.

I ended up mixing the accessories building 2 new Funko Pops! (So bye bye Alejandro!) The sculpt and the paint job aren’t that perfect as expected but I don’t care this time as it’s something that I really wanted. Customization is kinda my thing so this works for me, regardless.

First off is this Nerdy Superhero with a Freddy scepter and a mace. I love the black cap and specs adding more attitude to the character. Unlike Alejandro, this superhero looks like a kid who’s just in costume. 😊 Looking at the bottom of his foot, you’ll see where it was made. Some Pops are made in Vietnam and are known to have a better quality than those made in China. Looking at my collection, I totally agree!

Next is something classic with a twist. Freddy’s signature look is the one with the crown and a bow-tie. I just added the white specs and that totally complemented the shirt. Added the unicorn scepter, which is more of my icon (totally planning on customizing it with paint pens or sharpies) and ice cream on a cone for that cutesy effect. I wanna call this guy The Equestrian 😏.

Meet my new Build-A-Freddy Funko Pops!

These Funko Pops are more fun to play with because of the many possibilities on how they’ll look like. The arms are articulated too so you get to have more poses when taking photos. Knowing how Funko design things, this is a big leap to innovation. Okay not exactly a big leap but you know what I mean 😅. I customized a plastic insert for one of the pops and this is how it looked like.

I can say that these 2 will fall under my favorites because I can mix the body parts and accessories. I just wish you can buy parts separately mainly because I don’t have enough space for additional displays 😁. Proximity is totally a bummer as shipping isn’t available for this particular item. You or someone you know has to be there to buy it for you. But I guess the whole point here is to experience the Pop Factory for yourself and enjoy the rest of the HQ. Until my next Funko Toy Review! 🦄
